Blacksmiths always set the hammer down on the anvil because it provides a stable and solid surface for them to work on. The anvil is heavy and made of durable material, such as steel, which can withstand the force of the hammer blows. Placing the hammer on the anvil also helps to prevent damage to the hammer's head and handle, ensuring that it remains in good condition for future use. Additionally, setting the hammer down on the anvil allows the blacksmith to easily pick it up again when needed, making their work more efficient. **
